Police Chief Kieran Barrett

Kieran Barrett has accepted the role of Chief of the аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Êapp Police Department, effective Tuesday, July 5. Chief Barrett has a long and stellar career serving the аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Êapp community.

Chief Barrett began his law enforcement career at аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Êapp in 1998 after graduating from the Passaic County Police Academy in Wayne, NJ. In quick succession, he rose to the ranks of Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain and has served in the capacity of Deputy Chief for several years. Chief Barrett has managed investigations, patrol squads, special events, community programming and a myriad of other functions within the agency. He is a graduate of the West Point Command and Leadership Academy and the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Series. He received his Masters in History and most recently, a Graduate Certificate in Alcohol and Drug Counseling both from аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Êapp.

On campus, Chief Barrett is Chair of the University Safety Committee and serves in a multitude of roles as liaison with campus and off campus partners. One of his greatest pleasures is being an adjunct instructor at Montclair State in Child Advocacy, working directly with students in the classroom as they progress in their academic programs.

In his role as Chief, Kieran will be working to maintain a high level of professionalism expected from law enforcement and to further develop the Department’s outreach to the many communities, on and off the аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Êapp campus, which the department serves. He is extremely proud to work as the lead and alongside a diverse group of professionals and students in police, dispatch, EMS and Emergency Management who have chosen a service oriented path here at our home on campus.
